How Important is SEO?

You probably already know that the answer to the question is “Pretty darn important” but have you ever seen it quantified?

There are a lot of great things about the Internet, and for the businesses that know how to play in the online space, the rewards are huge. Just how huge is something I plan to share today. Thanks to a study by Advanced Web Ranking, we have the real numbers to analyze for online advertisers.

First-Page-CTR

As you can see, the top five ranking positions have the clear market advantage for driving targeted traffic to their sites. Imagine a phonebook with only 2-3 pages for businesses, that’s essentially what Google has become for businesses. If you aren’t on the first page of the search engine results pages (SERPs), forget about dominating your competitors.

On the flip side, if you can hold the #1 spot for even a short period of time, it will entirely change your business. I’m talking about the possibility of taking in more orders than you are prepared to fulfill. It’s both scary and exciting!

So the biggest question on everybody’s mind is “How do we get to #1?” I wish I could tell you that answer in one sentence, but that would require me to lie. The truth is that nobody knows the exact algorithm. It’s so top secret it’s even spread out amongst a few key Google employees so nobody can hold the exact formula.

There are some things we do know though, and even some tips that Google has shared with the community. First and foremost, Content is King. You’ve heard it before but what does it mean? It means that you have to put yourself in the mind of a robot, specifically one that can only see text on your website.

Here’s an example: You want to rank well on Google for “Online Sewing Classes”. However, your content is nothing but pictures of people sewing and having fun doing so, then how would Google know what your website is even about? Google cannot guess that your blog talking about needles and fabric should translate into online sewing classes. You have to say what you mean!

Ultimately, it takes a lot of time and effort to increase your rankings for specific search terms. It’s not impossible and clearly worth the effort. Contact us today for a custom SEO plan made just for your business. We will create a strategy and optimize every month to keep you growing. Once you hit that #1 spot, we’ll help keep you there month after month.
